Global natural resources have undergone long-term depletion due to pressures from expanding anthropogenic activities, including urbanization, expanding farms, and many others that are non-eco-friendly. Tanzania is not exceptional as most urban and rural areas are undergoing massive natural resource deprivation from similar agents.
Environmental Conservation Initiative (ECI) Tanzania is an organization established by environmentalists to support government efforts targeted to address natural resource deprivation in urban areas and marginalized rural places. The goal is to promote community-driven natural resource governance, management, and restoration for improved livelihoods, mitigate climate change impact, and restore deforested land.
We foresee a country where the marginalized and poor can realize better livelihoods through investment in conservation efforts with rewards. For instance, the promotion of apiculture in rural places and urban tree nurseries/planting serve as low-cost sources of employment for youth, women, and other marginalized as it requires minimal physical efforts and routine work to make it function. On the other hand, the weather conditions in most urban centers are becoming worse because of a lack of sufficient tree cover to supply fresh air and shade for inhabitants and passersby, urban tree planting programs enable urban authorities and inhabitants to change this trajectory by enhancing these efforts to make this world a better place to live.
We are a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Tanzania, committed to addressing the depletion of natural resources caused by urbanization, unsustainable agriculture, and other non-eco-friendly activities. Our mission is to contribute to global environmental conservation by supporting local communities in managing, restoring, and protecting natural resources.
Founded by environmentalists, ECI focuses on promoting sustainable development practices that enhance both environmental sustainability and community well-being. We aim to be part of the global movement working to protect the planet, ensuring a healthier, more sustainable environment for current and future generations.
At the Environmental Conservation Initiative (ECI), we focus on promoting sustainable practices that protect and restore the environment while enhancing community livelihoods. Through a variety of initiatives, we empower communities to engage in environmental conservation and resource management.
The Environmental Conservation Initiative (ECI) was founded by a group of passionate environmentalists in Tanzania with a vision to address the growing depletion of natural resources and promote sustainable development. As urbanization and unsustainable farming practices have taken a toll on the environment, we saw a need for concerted efforts to restore and protect our natural landscapes.
At ECI, we believe that environmental conservation is not only essential for the planet but can also improve the livelihoods of communities, especially those most vulnerable. We are committed to empowering local communities to take an active role in protecting their natural resources through initiatives like urban tree planting, sustainable beekeeping, and enhancing the forestry value chain.
Our work is driven by our core values of honesty, consistency, integrity, and sustainability. Through education, community engagement, and strategic partnerships, we strive to create lasting, positive change—building a world where people and nature thrive together
We envision planet Earth where everyone assumes the responsibility to protect and conserve available natural resources for present and future generations.
